Today was basically trouble free and pretty much on schedule. We left Xian an hour later than was scheduled, but were at the hotel in Lhasa around 5:00. The flight was smooth and comfortable.
Tibet has not progressed at the rapid rate that China has, although there is every indication that it will happen soon.
Getting to our hotel was an adventure in itself....the streets in Old Lhasa are narrow and jammed with people and stores. Our driver couldn't make the last turn so we walked the rest of the way to the hotel.
Now for our hotel - yesterday we had every luxury available in a hotel, today we are in a small authentic Tibetan hotel. The decor is rustic, but clean so we are very satisfied with our choice. Exactly what we wanted!
We rested for awhile then a hotel employee walked us to a restaurant he recommended....not sure we could have found the place in these narrow, winding streets, although we did find our way home.
All four of us are feeling some effects of the altitude, either a headache, out of breath or winded when climbing the four flights to our rooms. Yesterday Fred and I tried taking pills to prepare us for the height change, but we couldn't stand how we felt so we quit after one dosage.
When comparing Calgary's altitude of 1000 metres and Lhasa's of 3600 metres, it is easy to understand why some people have trouble.
