Take Me Out to the.....

OMG! It was an unbelievably hot day at Yankee Stadium. We tried to stay for the better part of the game, but as much as Dawn and I love a good ballgame we had to leave early.

The heat and humidity was oppressive. Fred won't believe this, but I had to buy a cap to survive!  Even Mo had to break down!

We made a few mistakes getting to the stadium, but we survived.....just follow the Yankee t shirts!

Lost

We have done very well in the directions department until today.  We jumped on the wrong subway and has a very interesting tour of Brooklyn.....from one end to the other. All was okay though as we ended up at our destination one hour later.

The walk across the bridge was informative watching the NYPD practice rescues from atop the bridge.  Helicopter and humans working together.

We walked to Katz Diner to sample some New York deli and had a great time...so much fun trying to order. And usually something you won’t eat.

Should I Buy It?

Every trip to New York City has to include a trip to Sak's, but Dawn found the prices a little steep for her liking! These yoga pants were a mere $1600 USD

Brenda's sweater was only $495 USD.

I'll Make it Pink

We have this neat little Irish pub connected to our hotel and today was no different from any other day...one of us always seems to be stopping in there for a beer or for lunch. Today was my turn.

Everyone else was shopping so I went to Brendan's for a quick bite. Andrew made sure I was well taken care of.

Eventually the whole group was being entertained by the man. He insisted on buying us a shooter and when we refused his come back was "I'll make it pink". Pink it may have been, but it was strong!

It was a good thing that we had tickets to the Book of Morman or we still might be in there.

Walking, Walking, Walking

After a refreshing sleep, we were ready to tackle the day. First on the agenda was to purchase a Metro Pass for a week.

We bought it at Penn Station and after a few wrong turns we finally found the correct subway and headed for the 911 Memorial. It was as heart wrenching as the first time I saw it.

From there we walked to Battery Park to catch the commuter ferry to Staten Island so we could get a good look at the Statue of Liberty. None of us wanted to stand in line to get up close so this was the  next best thing.

By this time we were hungry again so we found Stone Street and all its outdoor restaurants. I love that street and could spend all day there.

A quick visit to Wall Street ended the day, or so we thought. After we got back we wanted to get a closer look at Times Square. That was another little jaunt that the feet didn't need.

Lots of walking and lots of sightseeing made this a very busy day. Tomorrow, we hope to slow down and spend the day around this area.

We're Back

We had pretty good flights from Saskatoon, Toronto and on to New York City, except for the ungodly hour of the first flight. We were at the airport by 4:00 am!

As usual, our carry ons saved us an enormous amount of time. We deplaned at La Guardia at 2:15 and by 4:00 we were at a restaurant near Times Square having our first meal of the day.

I spoke kindly to the person in charge on the flight from Saskatoon to Toronto and she rewarded us with Plus seats! How nice, except that both Mo and I slept through lunch service and didn't reap any of the benefits of the seats.

We did some (11.97 kms) walking after we ate and by 7:00 we were showered and in our pjs. Not New York like at all.

Our first stop was the United Nations Complex, but the flags were already down and the employees were locking up. The area was not particularly striking.
