What To Do On A Rainy Day?

Rain doesn't appear very often in our area, but on Sunday there was a light mist much of the day. Since it was Mo's last day we had to hit the beach and then join in a happy hour at the neighbours!

One thing lead to another and since no one wanted to cook we went for pizza at the RV restaurant. There were many fiascos in this adventure. We were informed that they were out of pizza, fish, red wine, and only had four light beer for the seven of us.

Regardless, we had a great evening and Mo got the proper send-off!

I was caught two-fisting it...I was not going to give up my light beer since they didn't have any more!

Tacos

Every Saturday night is taco night in Lo de Marcos. The local restaurants and food stands all prepare many types of tacos...beef, pork, fish or shrimp.

The best way to try the food is to walk from restaurant to restaurant, with a few stops at taco stands along the way. Because many of the places do not have a liquor license we would grab a table and one of us would run to the store to purchase enough beer for the table. Walk the streets carrying a beer...just like Vegas!

Market Tour

I know Mo would have preferred to rest and relax, but you can't come this far without visiting the best market in the area.  Strange as it may sound, we didn't buy anything...but we did find time for a nice lunch.

A Week With....

Mo arrived on Monday evening and since being late is against everything I believe in, we got there early and had to wait for an hour.  Perfect time to catch up on our sleep.

It didn't take us long to get Mo into the routine of Lo de Marcos. Margaritas, beer and lunches on the beach.

Hike

Today we decided that it was time to rid our bodies of the excess weight caused by consuming multiple perogies at Fred's mom's while there a week ago. We hiked the 10.2 Km mountain route north of town and it was a little steeper than I remember!

We knew we had to cross the river and most everyone took off their socks and shoes for the crossing. Not me....I had a better plan! I wore plastic bags over my hiking shoes. It would have worked perfectly except for the fact that the rocks in the river tore holes in the bags and my feet got soaked. I made it up and down without any blisters forming from the wet socks, but in town we had to squeeze the water out of my socks .

In recent days someone has put up a fence that we needed to by-pass.  We think it was to keep the horses out, but who knows?

The scenery at the top of the hike makes it all worthwhile. It is a beautiful display of the jungle, the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

New Awnings

Mexicans are willing to adjust to any situation.  Repainting RVs is becoming very popular in the park. The sun destroys the decals on the sides of the units so they remove the faded part and replace it with a hand painted decal instead of the stuck on deal.  Hopefully this lasts longer in the sun.

Another group of men come to the park and replace worn out awnings. Yesterday a neighbour was having this done and the method drew lots of attention.  The men showed up with the sewing machine bolted on the back of their half ton and proceeded to make the awning right in front of the unit. Something you don't see back home. Sewn and installed all in one day!

Colder Weather

Monday, January 5th was a day of contrasts...31C in Puerto Vallarta and -32C in Saskatoon.  We flew home to help celebrate Fred's mom's 90th birthday and we are so glad we did, even with the cold and snow!

We had a week to get adjusted to the weather and I think we did pretty good considering we haven't been in this type of climate for many years.  Thank goodness a pair of saints were on the lookout for freezing family members and had parkas and mitts ready upon arrival.

We had the rare chance to visit with every member of Fred's family as everyone was home for the birthday party.

Happy Birthday to a great lady!
