Apartment Hunting

We are considering renting an apartment in San Pancho next winter rather than haul the RV over these poor Mexican roads...and they are getting much worse each year.

Making a decision is proving to be quite difficult so we rented the apartment for two days to give us a better idea. The apartment is a two bedroom, modern unit situated on a busy street about .8 km from the ocean.  It has a wrap around patio that is perfect for what we want. We loved it, but still can't make up our minds.

We have a hold on the place for December and January of next year and Geno, the owner, has told us he will not rent it out without contacting us first. Can't ask for much more than that.

Festival

Lo de Marcos is becoming somewhat cultural with groups working hard to maintain and enhance their history through dance....the dancing horses are some of the best in the area.

Last Friday we attended a festival supporting the Mexican cowboy called the Charro. The Charro are raising money so they can continue to travel to different events with their horses.

The host family was very gracious in offering their house and grounds for the meal and the performers.

Another group from Lo de Marcos that is in demand is the traditional dance group.  This particular group was made up of local students from town and are trained by a resident of Lo de Marcos.

On of the most interesting dances of the night was called the Lady and the Horse. The woman and horse danced together in the courtyard and kept the audience's attention throughout.

It rained briefly so we made our way to shelter. Before we knew it, the mariachis moved in front of us...no escape!

The last dance of the night was spectacular.  This lady often performs in parades and is the best of the group, but don't tell the Charros that!

My Day

The day started out looking very promising….we had a tee off booked for 9:15 and there wasn’t another soul on the course. Perfect, because now we could take our time and bring in an awesome score.

Somewhere along the way, the round turned out to be the worst we have played all year. It was quick though, we were finished in a little over an hour. Record time and almost a record high score.

We were Foster sitting while Sonny and Cindy were on an excursion south and because of the heat we wanted to hurry back to the dog. But, just for the heck of it we decided to stop at the OXXO to get cash. Now our day really went down hill.

I could hear the money being counted in the machine….just a few more seconds! No, the power went out! No money and most importantly, no card.

We couldn’t leave as we didn’t know what would happen when the power came back on - would the money come out?  Would we get our card back?  Would someone else get our money?

So we waited…two hours seem like a long time when you are sitting in a 7-11 type convenience store.  Lawn chairs help.

We had to keep running back to Foster, concerned that he would be too hot without the AC. On one of my trips back, I decided to take him over to some friends who have an apartment rented nearby. It didn’t take us long to get run out of there!

A Golden Retriever type dog attacked Foster and the only thing that saved that poor dog was my foot [and Foster’s fighting technique].  We were backed into a corner and the attack didn’t stop until the owner came out and started controlling his dog.

We turned around and almost ran to the gate when another dog started after us. We were pretty quick! I only had time to get one kick in before slamming the gate. This dog appeared to be meaner than the first.

Foster refuses to walk in that direction since the incident. I would image the owner thought the whole thing was innocent enough, but he should have been in our shoes and paws!  No apology, nothing!

The power came back on, but we didn’t get any cash nor did our card come out. We had a friend phone the bank and they told us that when the power goes out the card gets “eaten” by the machine.

All is not lost…I had two cards! We can survive another day in Mexico.

The rest of “my day” was spent on the beach with a cerveza in hand!  What else could one do?

Ending With a Bang

Our rainy weather is finally over and it did end with a bang.  Around 8:00 pm the wind picked up and the rain came down even harder, if that was possible. Such a strange winter storm!

We weren't the only ones running around trying to tie down canopies, carpets and chairs. We escaped all damage, but the park restaurant wasn't so lucky.

Everyone in the RV park spent the better part of the next day drying things out and putting things back together.

And of course, everyone needs a supervisor!

Still Raining....

It has been raining here for the last three days with no end in sight. We have been trying to do what we can inside the unit just to keep the boredom away. I think all the income tax has been looked at, along with the GST statement.
On Sunday, we had a huge Super Bowl party planned at the park’s restaurant, but when we went there was no sign of the party or the food. The owners had decided that the rain was too much and had left for the day.

Cindy improvised and made a quick run for snacks…we weren’t left stranded after all. The best part of the game were the commercials, some of which were hilarious.

Today we had an appointment to look at an apartment in San Pancho and because of the rain we were certain the realtor wouldn’t show up….wrong, wrong!  We liked the place but found it too small.  On Wednesday we have another appointment to check out the two bedroom apartment.  We shall see!

It is 3:45 on Monday and for the first time since Friday afternoon, it looks like the sun may shine again!

I shouldn’t be complaining…we could be shovelling snow instead of sweeping water off the patio.
