...And So Many More Stairs July 12, 2013

We toured the most famous site in Lhasa yesterday with the aid of our guide.  The security was tight, I think we had to show our passports and Tibetan Visa three times and go through a security check twice.

Potala Palace was well worth the extra precautions though.  It is perched on a hill with a commanding view of the city. There are 999 rooms and I read somewhere that there were 1080 steps to climb....no, Alice and I didn't count these although we have been known to stair count quite frequently!

The Palace is divided into two parts, the Red Palace and the White.  The Red is devoted to Buddhist religious study and prayer while the White part is the living quarters of the Dalai Lama
Both parts were spectacular and since no pictures were allowed, I'm not sure I could possibly describe them.  It is a fabulous place with so much history and religion to offer.

The lady in front is our guide for our entire Tibet tour.  It is very difficult to enter Tibet without the services of a guide.  She was wonderful...a nomad growing up, she now resides in Lhasa.
