Speed Trap July 16, 2013

Tibet has a very unique way of enforcing speed limits on their major roads.  When we left Lhasa we had to stop and our guide had to register our travel plans with our Tibetan visa. She and the driver also had to log in at a speeding check point just outside of the city.

We stopped three times along the road, at various check points, to produce the paper that said what time we left Lhasa.  If you arrived too soon you were fined for speeding.

A couple of times our driver had to stop for several minutes to regulate his arrival time.  We didn't mind this at all as it gave us time to take pictures, use the washroom (more about that in later blogs) or buy more trinkets.

I don't know if this would work in Canada, but you must admit it saves a lot of police time patrolling the highways.
