The Forgotten Beauties

I forgot about them already! We bought these plants to add colour to our place when Don and Adelle were coming....we don't know what they are or how to take care of them.

Every three or four days when they are almost laying on their sides we think to add water. I have a feeling that someone else took care of them while our company was here!

These four beauties will go to a summer home in Guaymas while we are gone....I don't expect to see them again! Chuyita does not take good care of plants or trees. It's not the Mexican way.

They look pretty good right now due to the fact that Fred found them almost dead and decided he would try his revival skills.

Going Hunting

We are on a mission! Anne wants us to bring back some chili spice that she found when they were here last, but we are having trouble locating the same stuff.

Fred even disappeared into the back depths of Walmart searching for the elusive seasoning.

He did reappear within a reasonable time...without spice in hand!

Out of Control

My rosemary plant is getting so big that it takes a twig trimmer to cut the stocks....okay I may have added a little fertilizer!

The same with my roses....there are twenty three buds that will bloom in the next week. Hopefully we will see that happen before we head home.

The flowers below haven't received the same treatment...can you tell?  We need Annie here to take control of the situation!

Wind Up

On Wednesday, all of us who worked the cancer walk [before, during and after the walk] were invited to a wind up party to celebrate the success of the 2017 walk...167, 000 pesos for free mammograms for the women of Guaymas!

It was a short party with just enough time to say good bye to the rest of the volunteers and a chance to plan for next year.

Gym Clothes to Pyjamas

I almost made it home.....I even got as far as our street after my gym session.

I went for pilates at 7:30 and finally made it home at 5:30. Somewhere in between I got caught up with a bunch of trouble makers. I tried a few times to leave, but eventually just gave up and enjoyed the day.

It was a "roaming hairdresser" kind of day and lots of fun.  A few bottles of wine later we were still happy with our cuts...yes, me too! I didn't know I needed a haircut, but apparently I did.

Birthday Party

Yesterday was Gloria's birthday and we celebrated it in style. Forty of her friends joined her and Dennis at a local restaurant for great food and great music.

They hired a singer from Obregon to perform during and after the meal...she was perfect for the occasion.

Even the staff at the restaurant got involved in the partying!

Goodbye

Friday was time to say goodbye to 30C weather and hello to -28C with the windchill. We will miss our dishwashers! Thanks for joining us in San Carlos!

Work is Never Done!

It appears that whenever a family member comes for a visit we put them to work! No exception this time.

Our sun had faded over the years and it needed painting badly....Fred and I have been putting it off for a long time hoping someone would come down and do what we don't like to do.

It looks great, thanks to Don and Adelle!

The before, the work and the after!!

Hotel

We took a short drive to see the Hotel Cortez and for some reason my pictures did not turn out....this is the only one I have!!  Not something we did every day!

We went to the bar at the Hotel to see the wood carvings called the Rape of Mexico and walked out with a cerveza!

The hotel continues to amaze me every time we go. It is a timeless, historic place that shows the history of the area through pictures and the building itself.

Boat Ride

Wouldn't you know it....the week before Don and Adelle arrived the dolphins were popping up everywhere. Now that the Canadians are here, the dolphins went into hiding!

We did a thorough search with the help of our neighbour, Gary. He took us out on his boat and we cruised the bay looking for the pods. One pod had a baby dolphin with them so maybe they were protecting her and keeping her hidden.

Thanks to Gary we did see a few, but regardless we had a great time seeing San Carlos from the water. It gives a different perspective of our little town.

Today was the Day

The three amigos decided that Monday would be the day to conquer Tetakawi! Everyone kept assuring Don that it would be a piece of cake....everyone, except me! One trip up there is enough!

They started the hike at 8:35 and were home by 11:00....tired, but happy.

I keep hearing things like "I think I might throw up" or "don't quit now". I even heard "don't pull yourself too quickly through the hole...it drops off on the other side!" This doesn't sound like fun to me.

Regardless, they completed the hike and returned without any injuries.

I tried to find the best pictures from Fred's camera and I hope you get an idea of what they went through. BTW, the pictures of people on the ledges are of strangers and not one of ours!

A Different Kind of Day

Yesterday we walked to the Rescate Market and then walked all the way to the Marina...about seven miles total.  Did someone say Advil?

Today we walked almost the same route, except this was for the San Carlos cancer walk. Not as many walkers as last year, but still very well attended. The walk was followed by a silent auction and some Mexican dancing which I enjoyed a lot.

Our day should have ended there, but since it was such a calm day we decided to go to the Soggy Peso for a beer. Perfect weather!

Okay, so maybe we should gone straight home from the Soggy Peso, but we wanted to try the pizza at a new restaurant in town. Almost as perfect as the weather!

Dedication

This is how Adelle spends her holidays....that is dedication!

Before she could repeat the process we volunteered to help the Chinese Auction Committee pick up donated goods from the back of Dennis's truck.

A Little Shopping

On Saturday we walked to the Rescate Market to see if we could find anything exciting to buy. Rescate is the San Carlos emergency service funded completely by the residents of our small town.

We were choosy and very picky, but I couldn't keep my pesos in my wallet! We bought a laundry basket along with a few other items.

Don and Adelle looked but didn't buy too much....her wallet had a tighter clasp than mine!

We both agreed that the Castaway Kids booth had some interesting things to look at and Fred and I now have a new table centre piece...thanks to our Canadian VIPs!

VIPs

They arrived...right on time. Don and Adelle had to overnight in Phoenix on March 1st to be able to make their Phoenix to Hermosillo connection work out, but everything went rather smoothly and they arrived safe and sound. Don actually made a few life-long friends along the way...I don't know if he made arrangements to meet them on the flight back or in Phoenix itself, but he can tell you when they get to Saskatoon.

The setting on my camera was all mixed up so this is what I got!! Eventually.... a proper arrival photo.

The drive back to San Carlos was a little slow due to heavy road construction, but we were settled into beer mode by 3:00!

Some pico de gallo, an early supper, a little TV and sleep deprivation had Don and Adelle yawning by 7:30 [8:30 Saskatoon time] so the bed was probably a welcome sight!
