The Treadmill Doesn't Work That Way July 4, 2013

I came to that conclusion just before the 4000th step on our excursion to the Great Wall yesterday!  Well,  I may be exaggerating but we spent time cooling down over a beer and this is the number we came up with!  And we're sticking to it!!

We hired a driver to take us to a more distant section of the Wall just to keep away from the huge crowds.  We took a cable car to the top and started our climb from there.  We climbed one kilometre in one direction - it wasn't a level climb and the calves started to tell us that almost immediately.  The 38 degree temperature and the sunscreen had us dripping wet in no time.  Thank goodness for the three water vendors along the way.

We had the choice of going at least another two kilometres in the opposite direction, but that became a no-brainier in a short time.  The heat wore us out.

We were then driven to the Ming Tombs.  The most important feature of this site was that the tombs were underground and we could cool down!
