Long Flight/Long Day

The 9.5 hour flight from Calgary to Rome was a difficult one….neither Fred nor I was able to find the comfort zone for our legs, which made for a restless flight. We found out after landing at 11:45 am (Rome time) that Alice and  Jim had the same type of problem but their’s was more pronounced because they had a crying baby close to them.

But that didn’t stop us from checking into our hotel, changing into cooler clothes and heading out for our first sightseeing event of the trip…..we decided that we had to follow the clock in Rome and not give in to sleep!

We did make one concession and that was to take a cab to Ostia antica…..Rome’s first port. It was much larger than anticipated and thankfully not busy at all. We walked through much of the site before we decided we were getting pretty hungry and tired. While waiting for a cab, the two sweet lovers of the group had to try their first gelato,…Alice’s selection of flavours far surpassed Fred’s!
