For the Second Time

Today we drove through Palestine again…on the way to Masada, a stronghold fortress constructed by King Herod in the year 30 BC just in case he needed it for protection against invaders. The place is situated high on a mesa near the Dead Sea and in my mind no one could get up there to build left alone destroy.

We could have hiked up to the fortress (around an hour) or taken the cable car…take a guess at which one we chose…when you decide you must consider my age!,

Roman baths, a water system that rivals many ancient towns and a source of food kept this fortress self sufficient….if you think pigeons are a good source of food!

Masada is located in the Judean Desert which proved to be very stark and unliveable.
