Colonial Towns

We have wanted to return to Alamos, Mexico for many years, but just like others things that trip was put on the back burner.  It is 50 kms out of the way and when you are heading to warmer weather that 50 kms seem like an eternity.

Alamos is situated in the hills and as a result it cools down at night - a lot cool!  Five days ago we were doing every thing we could to cool the unit down and this morning we had the mini heater on!

We plan on spending two days here, arriving at the perfect time.  There is an International Music Festival on and the town is hopping.  Not many campers, but lots of Mexicans staying at the hotels.

Alamos was started in the 1600s, around the time of a huge silver find in this area.  It grew with many huge colonial houses being built.  After the silver disappeared, families left and the town went into ruins.  It was rediscovered about 50 years ago by wealthy Americans who restored many of the old homes into hotels and restaurants.  Today it is a National Historic Site and is a wonderful display of colonial times in Mexico.  It reminds me of the city of Merida.

Never one to pass up a challenge, we climbed the 356 steps to the look-out point over looking the city.  Not as bad as we thought it would be and the view was great.

Not satisfied with that walk, we went for another long hike checking out other RV Parks and ended up back in the midst of the festivals at the end of the day.

Our day ended on a high note when, after 63 days on the road, we finally spruced ourselves up and went out for a nice dinner - no more taco stands and quesadillas on the beach.  Real food and real wine!

this definitely looks like the kind of place we'd enjoy. And I see you still count steps- love it ( we counters stick together).....I double checked the number of steps to work the other day :-)

Hi....my name is ars and I'm a step-counter too :)
I've been trying to kick this addiction for years but have given up. My step-counting continues throughout my day into my fitness workouts - it's what keeps me going!

Not to worry. Admitting you have a problem is a positive step towards recovery. Besides, really you two are just 'hobby counters'. I know a woman who counted the painted dots in the centre of the highway. She was an 'extreme counter' but is also on the road to recovery.
